There was high drama yesterday at the Ding Junhui Snooker Academy in Sheffield
Reanne Evans and Ng On Yee, both professional snooker players, were beaten by Wendy Jans and Nutcharut Wongharuthai respectively at the quarter-final stage of the World Women’s Snooker Championship.
Nutcharut Wongharuthai (aka Mink) has raised a few eyebrows recently with a great run in one of the Q Tour events and was expected to do well in this tournament.
Mink was 3-0 up on On Yee, who fought back to force the decider. On Yee took an early lead only for Mink to fight back and take the frame and match on the final black.
Wendy Jans from Belgium is now in her fifth world championship semi-final and to beat Evans, the 12 times world Champion, with a convincing 4-1 scoreline is no mean feat!
The other two women still in contention are Rebecca Kenna, who runs Cue Sports Yorkshire and is now in her fourth world championship semi-final, and Jamie Hunter in her first appearance at the World Championships.
They will be playing today for the title of World Women’s Snooker Champion, the Mandy Fisher Trophy and a place on the World Snooker Tour for the next two seasons.
