Reanne Evans Out of 2022 Women’s World Championship

Reanne Evans has crashed out of the 2022 Women’s World Championship after a 4-1 defeat to Wendy Jans on Sunday in Sheffield.

The reigning champion was bidding for a record-extending 13th crown but fell short against the experienced Belgian at the quarter-final stage.

Defeat for the Englishwoman marks the first time in her career that she has failed to reach the last four of the prestigious competition.

Jans, 38, instead moves a step closer to a maiden title having previously won the IBSF World Amateur Championship seven times during her career.

On the opposite side of the draw at the Ding Junhui Snooker Academy, Ng On Yee also bowed out after a dramatic 4-3 reverse to Nutcharut Wongharuthai.

The three-time champion fought back from 3-0 down to force a decider, but the young Thai star prevailed from a nail-biting climax on the final black.

Wongharuthai, known as Mink on the women’s circuit, captured the Women’s British Open crown last month and will likely be regarded as the new favourite for the World Championship in 2022.

Rebecca Kenna will be Wongharuthai’s opponent in the last four after beating fellow Englishwoman Emma Parker 4-2.

Jamie Hunter will face Jans in the other semi-final after a comprehensive 4-0 whitewash of Anja Vandenbussche.

The Women’s World Championship concludes on Monday when the champion for 2022 will be determined.
